NOTE : This page provides numerous links to forecast products; some of which are pure model output, while other products (in particular the UKMO forecast charts, and some of the DWD charts) are based on model output, but adjusted by forecasters taking into account analysis discrepancies & known model characteristics. All data is provided by Karlsruhe University unless otherwise stated.

UK Met Office (UKMO) Model

The following products are available from the UKMO Model Runs...

GFS (formerly AVN) Model

The following GFS products are available...

GFS 6 panel Plots (various fields) (from Unisys)

GFS 4 panel Plots (Panel 1= 850hPa Temperatures, Heights & Winds; Panel 2= 300hPa Winds & Heights; Panel 3=Surface Temperature, Thickness & Precipitation; Panel 4= Integrated 850hPa & 500hPa Relative Humidity & Showalter Index) (from Unisys)

Hi-Res GFS

The following links are to the Hi-Res GFS Model which covers Central Europe (including a large part of the UK). The model data is derived from the origional GFS Model (above) but on a finer grid-scale of c50 km rather than the GFS's usual 100 km resolution. The information is also available at 3 hourly steps rather than 6 hourly, but only to T+180.

Canadian (GEM) Model

The following products are available from the Canadian GEM Model...

GME (formally DWD) German Model

The following products are available from the GME / DWD Model...

For and alternative source of GEM Products Please follow this link. (from Meteosort) Note however, many of the charts provided are of poor quality.

European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) Model

The following products are available from the ECMWF (final set of data is from Karlshruhe Univ)...

The ECMWF also provide Seasonal Forecasts. These can be viewed by clicking here!

ENS Ensemble Model

The following products are available from the ENS Ensemble Model...

FNMOC Wave Watch 3 Model

This model provides global marine model data including sea swell & direction+period, wave height & direction+period, Significant wave heights etc. The model runs at 00Z and 12Z and covers nearly all ocean areas out to T+144hrs with a nested local model for Europe out to T+72hrs.

Click here to goto this site. (Provided by FNMOC). Note that this section will be expanded to provided individual links to products in the immediate month or so.

HALO (Icelandic Met Office) Model

Excellent Icelandic site offering 1 hourly Wind, Temperature, Precipitation and Cloud Cover out to T+72 hrs for the whole of Europe, including zoomed views for the UK and other European Countries. Animations are also availabe and also Meteograms for various cities are available too.

Individual links to information will be placed here if possible in the months to come. Meanwhile.. Click here to goto the site... Well worth a look!!

HIRLAM (Spanish) Model

The following HIRLAM products are available (from Meteosim) ...

The followin MASS Model products are available, All run at 1200 GMT (from Meteosim)...

... each link above shows a mosaic of T+0 to T+48 frames at 6 hour intervals

Japanese Meteorological Association (JMA) Model

The following JMA products are available...

MASS (Mesoscale Atmospheric Simulation System) Model

The following MASS Model products are available, All run at 1200 GMT (from Meteosim)...

... each link above shows a mosaic of T+0 to T+36 frames at 12 hour intervals (except precipitation which is 3 hourly)

MASS Wave Model

The following MASS Wave Model products are available (from Meteosim) (all run at 0000 GMT)...

... each link above shows a mosaic of T+0 to T+72 frames at 6 hour intervals

NCAR MM5 Mesoscale Model

The following NCAR MM5 products are available (from Meteosim) (all run at 0000 GMT)...

... each link above shows a mosaic of T+0 to T+36 frames at 12 hour intervals (except precipitation which is 3 hourly)

NCEP Nested Mesoscale Model

This model provides Mesoscale models for Europe (13km resolution) and the Alps (at 4 and 2km! resolution). The model is run at 00Z and 12Z for purposes of model data/animations and at 06Z an 18Z for providing graphical METEOGRAMS. This model is NOT yet operational but data appears to verify well with other models and actual conditions. (Data is provided by Basel Uni - Switzerland).

This is an EXCELLENT site with static, animated and interactive maps of many weather elements including upper air streamlines, rainfall and cloud cover animations, temperature animations and the only site i've found so far that provides effective 850mb theta-W fields. This is well worth a visit and the amount of information is extensive. Particularly impressive are the 1 hourly rainfall/snowfall and cloud animations.

The site also provides excellent pictorial METEOGRAMs showing a wealth of information including temperature graphs, precipitation bar graphs including precipitation type and a pictorial almost "3D" style of cloud cover depection.

NCEP Medium Range Forecast (MRF)

The following MRF products are available from Unisys. Note that the MRF and GFS are the same model and so the links to Karlsruhe MRF data have been moved to the GFS Section.

Note : Links to individual times are available once one of the above links has been selected.

National Oceanographic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Long Range Model

The following products are available from the NOAA Long Range Model (NOAA)...

NOGAPS Model

The following NOGAPS products are available (FNMOC via Karlsruhe Univ)...

The following NOGAPS products are also available...

US Air Force (USAFE Sembach) Data

The following products are available from the USAFE. These are forecaster adjusted products from the UKMO model. (USAFE Sembach)...

Wave Model

The following product is available via the University of Karlsruhe. The origion of the model product is unknown.

Model Comparisons

Click here to goto an excellent model comparison page which compares NOGAPS, UKMO, GFS and ECMWF 850hPa Temperature & Height fields and 500hPa Height & MSLP fields against each other at descrete times from T+00 to T+144. (Credit to Col Martin)
